I live in Auckland, New Zealand.

Prior to founding Proofreaders Plus I worked in the corporate and academic worlds and for not-for-profit organisations. Over the years I have volunteered for local clubs, schools and kindergartens. That real-world experience is invaluable in my editing work today.

I have passed the exam to become an Accredited Editor with the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). The integrity and visibility of the editing profession in New Zealand is important to me, and I served as president of EdANZ, the New Zealand branch of IPEd, for three years from 2019 to 2022. I continued to volunteer my time for the rest of my term on the branch committee and as an organiser for the 2023 IPEd conference.

While I am not an expert in te reo Māori, I do have a great interest in the language – to the extent that I am a keen student. If your writing has some te reo words in the context of English text and you need someone who can keep an eye out for the missing tohutō and check the spelling, then I can help.

To maintain my accreditation, I engage in professional development to show I am keeping my skills up to date. Recent training has included the following topics: advanced Word styles, memoir editing, copyright in New Zealand, fact-checking fiction, plain language business writing, inclusivity and diversity, editing kupu Māori within an English language context, brushing up on grammar and punctuation, and learning te reo Māori.
